What do I bring to my shoot?!
It’s one of the most frequently asked questions we get from first time clients. The answer sounds simple — pick outfits and accessories that make you feel sexy — but in practice, it’s more complicated. You should be comfortable and confident during your photo session, but it’s also an opportunity to get glammed up and try something new. You’ve got so many choices!
We encourage our clients to put together a mood board or collect a few photos of looks you love, and use them to help you plan your own boudoir experience. They can be pictures of your favorite celebrities, makeup looks from Instagram, a piece of beautiful artwork…whatever inspires you! Share those photos with us, and together we’ll style a shoot that’s perfect for your personality.
To help you get started, we’ve put together a list of the most popular boudoir themes. Choose one that speaks to you and start putting your own mood board together!
Isn’t it Romantic?
Lacy lingerie and soft, feminine makeup are popular boudoir looks for a reason. They’re classics! A romantic boudoir look will stand the test of time and is always in style.
If you’re a purist and want your first boudoir shoot to be as traditional as they come, stick to lingerie in classic cuts and fabrics, waist-cinching corsets, stockings with garters, and other traditionally sexy gear. Take your cue from romantic books and movies and get in the right mindset – Think about what you’d want to wear lying on a big, beautiful bed, surrounded by candles, waiting for your dream date to arrive.
Traditional doesn’t mean cookie cutter! Personalize your romantic look by choosing lingerie in your favorite color, wearing a special piece of jewelry from your significant other, or a unique pair of heels.
Girl Next Door
Are you a no fuss type of woman? Are you afraid you won’t look like yourself in your boudoir photos if you’re too made up or styled? The natural boudoir look might be right for you.
Smoky eyes and strappy, complicated lingerie aren’t right for every client. A sporty bra and panty set, a sweet cotton nightie, classic men’s dress shirt, and even your favorite sweater are just as sexy as a see through bodysuit.
Our makeup artists will match your wardrobe, with fresh, neutral makeup that flatters your face without overwhelming your natural beauty. You’ll look like you just woke up like this!
This is the opposite of the natural theme. With the glamorous boudoir look, it’s all about more, more, more!
Super sexy lingerie, big hair and bold makeup, and glittering jewels make for an excessively elegant look that calls to mind old Hollywood. Channel Marilyn, Sophia Loren, and Josephine Baker, dripping in diamonds and ready for your closeup!
Think luxe fabrics like velvet and satin, diamonds and pearls (real or costume), red lips and fun accessories like a pair of elbow length gloves. It’s all about opulence and sophistication.
If you love all things retro, consider a pinup boudoir look! Polka dots, victory rolls, and cateye liner are a fun way to make your shoot extra memorable.
Whether you’re more inspired by classic pinup illustrations or poster girls like Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese, retro style can be universally flattering, so don’t be afraid to explore it even if you don’t fit the feminine ideals of that era. Women of all shapes, sizes and skin tones can rock a high waisted lingerie set, wiggle dress, or leopard print bikini!
If you’re considering a pinup inspired shoot, we’ve got plenty of options for unique backdrops and props that will take your retro style to the next level.
Does it feel good to be bad? Go full tough girl with an edgy, rock and roll inspired boudoir look.
Leather, fishnets and smudged eyeliner aren’t for the faint of heart, but if you’ve always wanted to embrace your inner rockstar, your boudoir shoot is the perfect time to do so! Even simple touches like a studded choker, high boots, or a pair of cutoff jean shorts can give an otherwise more traditional shoot a badass vibe, or go big with a bold choice like a vinyl catsuit.
Let femme fatales like Joan Jett, Lita Ford and Blondie be your guide!
Boudoir is all about fantasy, so if you’ve got a flair for the supernatural, why not lean into it? A fantasy-inspired boudoir shoot will turn your dreams into reality.
You don’t need an elaborate costume to embrace this look, just a few special pieces. Be a fairy princess with a beautiful flower crown, go Game of Thrones with braids and jewelry fit for a queen, add steampunk elements like an old fashioned underbust corset, or choose sparkly, unicorn inspired makeup, for example.
There’s no reason to keep things in the bedroom! Try taking your fantasy inspired shoot outdoors.
